Writer terms
When you pitch Strait Journal or send a piece, you agree to these. Version 2026-10-06.
When you send a piece
- This piece is my own original work.
- What I state as fact is true as far as I know. If I'm not sure about something, I'll say so.
- I took the photos, or I have the right to share them, and I've named who took each one.
- Strait Journal may publish and edit the piece and the photos on straitjournal.com and its Instagram, with my name on them, and keep them up.
- I keep the copyright to my work.
- I'm responsible for my own statements and I'll answer questions about them.
- I can ask for a correction, or for the piece to come down, by writing to the Journal.
No payment, and no obligation
Strait Journal runs without revenue or ads, and nobody is paid to write for it. Sending a pitch or a piece doesn't oblige us to publish it, and a yes from us doesn't oblige you to write it.
How we edit
We may edit for length, clarity, facts and house style. You see every change next to your own line, and you approve the edited version before it runs. If you don't approve it, it doesn't run.
After it runs
Published pieces stay up. If something in yours is wrong, write to [email protected] and we'll fix it or add a correction. You can also ask us to take a piece down. You keep the copyright, so you can publish it anywhere else too.
Who can write
You need to be 18 or older.
Stopping
Every email we send has one link to stop the emails and withdraw. Your pitches and drafts that haven't run close when you use it. Anything already published stays up.
Your email
We use your email only for your pitches and pieces: confirming it's you, our answer, the edits, and the link when it runs. We don't add you to the newsletter and we don't share it.
